The nurse practitioner is an independent health
care professional with advanced nursing practice who provides comprehensive
health assessments, diagnosis/treatment and management of mothers and their
newborns while they are at the PLC hospital post-partum unit.
NPs work in collaboration with other health
care professionals to ensure families are discharged home from the hospital in
a timely but safe manner. The NP helps
organize any necessary follow-ups (ultra sounds, blood work, breast feeding
clinic, specialist appointments, prescriptions, etc.) for mothers and babies in
the community.
The NP supports both the
Maternity Care Clinic & Lougheed Maternity Group clients at the Peter Lougheed Centre on the PostPartum Unit.
