Community Partner Feature: Genesis Centre
With a large number of cultural holidays in April, it is a great month to showcase the many services offered by one of Mosaic’s important partners, the Genesis Centre.
Genesis Centre is a non-profit organization with over a million visitors annually. Genesis Centre strives to foster a sense of community for the NE region of Calgary by bringing people together, offering diverse health and wellness programs, and by celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the area. 4 out of 10 people who live in Calgary are a visible minority and over 50% of NE residents represent newcomers to Canada.
Social isolation was one of the major barriers to participation in this area before Genesis was built. The founders of Genesis wanted to provide people with opportunities to meet and create new relationships with their neighbours, helping them feel welcomed to practice their spirituality and health together.
Mosaic is proud to provide our free Active Adults program, the Active Toddlers program, dietitian and kinesiology services, as well as drop-in blood pressure checks onsite at the Genesis Centre. Mosaic’s weekly drop-in programs include Gentle Fitness Plus, Dance Cardio, Inspired by Yoga, and Exercise 101. Visitors can also ‘Walk and Talk’ with a registered dietitian and get nutritional information. To see the programs schedule, visit the website here.
Genesis Centre also hosts Antyx youth programs like Weekly Hip Hop Dance Cypher, and Youth Arts Action North. In addition, Genesis has a variety of other partners like Play City App, Saddletowne Library, YMCA Centre, Harvey’s Center, and more.
