Community Partner Feature: Calgary Seniors’ Resource Centre

National Seniors Day is on October 1, which coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. It is an occasion for Canadians to celebrate the profound contributions of seniors to our community.

This month, Mosaic PCN would like to recognize our community partner, the Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society. The Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society’s mission is to cultivate, coordinate, and provide personalized client-centered supports, services, and connections that help older persons on their ageing journey. Since 1995, Calgary Seniors’ has evolved and adapted with strategic and mindful innovations, expanding their volunteer and social work programs to meet the growing and changing needs of Calgary seniors. As baby boomers continue to age, and with Gen X closing in fast, they strive to continue this spirited growth to meet evolving needs and challenges.

The Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society has a core group of social workers that help with managing life changes and challenges. They provide information and long-term support while connecting seniors to the services and resources they need, when they need it. This includes Mosaic’s services – and our Community Engagement team has been happy to work with social workers in order to provide them with information they can pass on to their clients around accessing programs and utilizing the Alberta Find A Doctor tool to help connect to a family doctor. Their emergency social worker response program called SeniorConnect provides an urgent same day social work response for older adults identified as being at-risk or in crisis and is available outside regular hours. If you are concerned about an older adult and believe they are at-risk, please call The Distress Centre 24-hr help line at 403-266-4357 and explain your concerns to the call operator. A SeniorConnect social worker will address immediate concerns to stabilize the crisis and connect them to appropriate longer-term supports.

The Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society has many volunteers who provide social support and assist with daily living. Volunteer programs connect seniors with caring community members, who offer practical social and emotional supports.
