Trans, Two-Spirit, and LGBTQ+ Community Health Resources

At Mosaic Primary Care Network, our aim is to support diversity, inclusion, and community. In the spirit of supporting Two-Spirit, Trans, and all LGBTQ+ patients, along with healthcare providers, we want to highlight resources in Calgary that might be beneficial to 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and/or their family members, friends, and loved ones.

Speaking about your gender identity or sexuality with your healthcare provider can be daunting. We want to make sure you understand the connections between your identity and health, and that you can advocate for healthcare that meets all of your needs. If you are looking for guidance about how to speak with your healthcare provider about your gender and sexual orientation, please see this resource that outlines how to start this important conversation.

If you are looking for additional support outside of healthcare, there are many local and provincial resources that are available to 2SLGBTQ+ Calgarians:

Resources for transgender youth, adults, and their families:

  • Centre for Sexuality: Mosaic Primary Care Network is proudly partnered with the Centre for Sexuality. They deliver sexual health education, counselling, and resources for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. Although there are several amazing programs hosted by the Centre for Sexuality, two valuable programs that support youth include:
    • Camp fYrefly: A fun, educational, and social retreat for 2SLGBTQ+ youth hosted in Kananaskis during the summer. Cost and details can be found at the link provided.
    • Calgary Gay Straight Alliance Network: The Centre for Sexuality provides resources and consultation, upon request and free of charge, for those involved in a Gay Straight Alliance or who wish to start one at their school.
  • Trans Parent Alberta 101: Trans Parent Alberta 101 is a compilation of resources for supportive parents, family and allies of transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse children in Alberta.
  • Skipping Stone: Their mission is to connect trans and gender diverse youth, adults, and families with comprehensive and low barrier access to the support they need and deserve.
  • Trans Lifeline: A grassroots hotline that also offers microgrants to support trans people financially and emotionally.

Additional resources for LGBT+ Calgarians:

  • End of the Rainbow Foundation: provides support services for new LGBTQ+ Canadians including support groups, assistance with settling, and support with refugee hearings. They house the Calgary LGBTQ+ Refugee Centre and offer support groups for adults, parents and adult family members of LGBTQ+ individuals. Although their focus is new Canadians and refugees, they support all LGBTQ+ people, including longtime citizens.
  • Calgary Outlink: A non-profit organization providing support, education, outreach, and referrals for 2SLGBTQIA+ and allied communities.
  • LGBTQ resources for Calgarians: This PDF includes a long list of social, health, and housing services, LGBTQ friendly counseling and therapy, youth and family support groups, youth engagement, school supports, faith-based supports, phone lines, books, films and online resources.
